Aespa’s Winter undergoes throat surgery; SM responds
On April 11th news reports spread that aespa’s Winter underwent throat surgery for a spontaneous pneumothorax
(A spontaneous pneumothorax is the sudden onset of a collapsed lung without any apparent cause.)
The reports also state that she is currently recovering at a university hospital and will not participate in aespa’s comeback happening in May. Once the news began to spread SM Entertainment released a statement saying.
“It’s true that Winter is recovering after undergoing surgery. Because the condition is considered one that reoccurs easily, the surgery was advised by medical experts as a preemptive measure, and the decision to undergo surgery was reached after adequate deliberation.

All future schedules will proceed with Winter’s recovery and condition being given priority consideration.”
