Congratulations on the release of your new single, can you tell us a bit about the meaning behind your song “weirdo.”

naar: ‘weirdo’ was made thinking of someone who is somewhat creepy and someone who walks around the party unknowingly. It can also be described as a ghost. You can’t see the physical nature, but gets you interested with supernatural behaviors.

What inspired you to release ‘weirdo,’ and how does it differ from your previous release, ‘PARTY MONSTER’?

naar: I wanted to make a song that is unique and easy to listen to, but I made ‘PARTY MONSTER’ more so following the flow. I wanted to make ‘weirdo’ catchier, and it happened that the movie I was watching merged well with my personal experiences at the right time.

How do you approach songwriting? Can you share your process and any specific influences that shape your lyrical and musical choices?

naar: I try to listen and watch a lot of things – meeting people, playing video games, watching movies, or listening to music. Because of that, I always have ideas. After I get an idea, I just do what I want. It does somewhat depend on chance, but eventually everything comes together within your taste.

As an indie pop artist, how do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also appealing to a wider audience?

naar: I basically try to make things that people can be playful with and enjoy. Things that are easy to immerse yourself in. The more I do that, I feel that I’m close to general life. I think that is art to me.

You co-produced “weirdo” with fellow producer/artist EOM. Can you tell us about your collaboration and how it influenced the musical direction of the song?

naar: EOM is a friend who usually does electronic music and we’re so close that we talk through a lot of things. Things that we like, things that engage us. Therefore, we know the vibes we like together and it allowed us to make the song well.

Looking ahead, what can we expect from you in the future?

naar: I plan on being more hectic and more emotional. There are lots of fun things in store.

Lastly, what would you like to say to your fans?

naar: Listen in and keep engaged. Thank you.

We want to give a special thanks to naar for interviewing with us and to A MASS CULTURE for giving us this opportunity. Be sure to check naar’s new single “weirdo” below!
