Red Velvet’s Seulgi on ‘Baby, Not Baby,’ Her Growth, and Staying Strong in the Spotlight

Red Velvet’s Seulgi has graced the pages of ELLE magazine with a stunning new photoshoot. Following the release of her second solo album on March 10, featuring the title track “Baby, Not Baby,” Seulgi has been actively promoting her comeback.

In the accompanying interview, Seulgi opened up about the creative process behind her latest album. When asked about its production, she shared, I focused on communication. The process of gathering different creative ideas and unifying them into one direction was really fun. It also allowed me to express my opinions in diverse ways. I may not have been the captain, but I definitely played the role of the first mate, she said with a smile.

Speaking about her first impression of the title track, she revealed, I felt like this song had so much potential. I wanted to show a side of Seulgi that fans haven’t seen before. She also expressed gratitude for her Red Velvet members, saying, No matter what I do, they always support me. While preparing for the album, they checked in one by one to see how things were going. As the second oldest in the group, I also want to continue being a reliable member.

Celebrating her 10th anniversary with Red Velvet last year, Seulgi has been expanding her solo activities. From launching her personal YouTube channel “Hi Seulgi” to holding her first photography exhibition, she continues to explore new creative avenues. Reflecting on her personal growth, she shared, There are moments when I feel nervous, especially right before going on stage. But I always believe that everything will work out, and I try not to let anxiety consume me. While expressing emotions is important, I’ve realized that no one understands me better than myself. That’s why I practice self-restraint, which I think has become my form of composure.
