The Next Rising Artist: Seori
Korea’s next R&B rookie has arrived on the scene, and her creative music has left us in awe.
On May 12, 2020, Seori took us on a journey into an alternate dream world with her EP “?depacse ohw.” Six songs, each unique with its own story.
Seori first dabbled with music through YouTube’s platform. She uploaded covers of various artists and eventually grabbed the attention of an intrigued audience. Her cover of “Abir-Tango” went viral with about 3 million views, and her YouTube channel as a whole has garnered 141 thousand subscribers with nearly 5 million views.
Seori had already begun to make a name for herself before she even debuted! With every video she uploads, she only leaves us wanting more.
Through YouTube, Seori piqued the interest of many huge record labels, and instead choosing to sign with those agencies. She decided to work with an equally imaginative company named ATISPAUS. A company that genuinely understands her artistic direction.
Her new release captivated audiences with her mesmerizing vocals. In each track, a new part of Seori was shown. While creating her first EP, Seori experimented with different sounds and even recorded multiple tracks, ultimately Choosing six for the EP. Seori had mentioned that she had worked hard to carve each song with its own individuality.
Seori said that she aimed for the album to surround around the topic of “escape”. Everyone wants to escape from the heavy feelings that one could feel. It could be trying to escape from the busy work filled morning to escaping something so dark like the thought of sadness. Each song had its own rendition on the word “escape”.
With this new album, the company had exhibited the art of this project so interestingly. Along with this EP are two beautifully portrayed stories of music videos for the title track “Hairdryer” and “Running Through the Night”. The MV’s space-themed graphics and almost real-like feeling give this video an out-of-this-world aspect that allows the audience to truly escape from a burdening reality.
As well as these two music videos, there is a novel. Under the company, ATISPAUS is a writer named Seri. Seri has written a novel purely fiction that has some elements of the EP hidden in the novel.
Seori has come with a strong entrance, and I believe she only plans to grow from here. In an interview with hellokpop.com, Seori mentioned that she wants to explore more different types of music that are out there. She says, “I want to be an artist who isn’t trapped in or tied to a genre and can share diverse musical colors.”
