5 Korean Movies You Must Watch

For most of us, schools and universities have already opened back up. Work has slowly become a busier part of life, and our daily to-do list has become increasingly significant.

Because of our busy schedules, most of us don’t have time to watch a 16/20 episode show. This is where movies come into play. Movies are a short escape into an alternate reality from the fast-paced life we live in. They can engage us for a small one hour period, allowing us to forget our troubles and become immersed in this other world.

Here is a list of five movies that are sure to perk your interest in Kmovies!

  • Parasite

The award-winning Parasite should be part of the: “Why Haven’t You Watched This Movie Yet?!?!” list. I decided to add this here for those who need to be reminded about this movie’s success!

Directed and written by the renowned Bong Joon-Ho, “Parasite” is a dark comedy that portrays the lives of both the lower and upper-class spectrums of living in South Korea.

Ki-Woo’s (Choi Woo-Shik) family is not living in the best conditions. Their life is based on their day-to-day wages in order to make ends meet. When Ki-Woo lands a job as an English tutor for an affluent family, one lie adds up to another and becomes a big hidden secret.

A movie that strongly depicts the hungry emotion of greed, distinct class discrimination, empty empathy, and a hidden parasite that is slowly spreading. From start to finish, this movie was certainly a masterpiece on its own!

The perfect cast ensemble along with its talented crew made the movie into its outstanding success, as we know it, both within Korea and abroad. Bong Joon-Ho’s movie “Parasite” got a total of six nominations with four Oscar wins including “Best Picture”!

Directed by Kang Hyun-Chul is a nostalgic comedy/drama film that talks about long-lasting friendships.

Sunny’s storyline repeatedly moves between modern-day South Korea and the wild ’80s. These seven friends were a tight-knit group, none like any other. They fought for each other and made many fun memories. They called themselves “Sunny.”

As years past, they all grew apart and never saw each other again until one unexpected day when Na-Mi (Ho Jeong-Yu) meets Ha Chun-Hwa (Jin Hee-Kyung) at the hospital.

Ha Chun-Hwa has cancer and the doctors say that she may not make it. As they sit down on the hospital bed, Ha Chun-Hwa tells Na-Mi that her last dying wish is to see all of her friends happily together again!

Ready to fulfill the wish, Na-Mi sets out to look for the members of “Sunny”. As she looks, she recalls the fruitful memories of her teenage years.
