VITA Reveals Just How Hands On She Was With “PLEASER”

VITA is much more than the voice behind her music.

The Australian-Filipino singer, songwriter, dancer and self-taught engineer has built her career around being deeply involved in the creative process, and during a recent press conference, TokkiStar asked her just how hands-on she was when creating her latest single, “PLEASER.”

The question came as VITA prepares to release her upcoming project, OPIA, an album built around vulnerability, self-reflection and confronting different versions of herself.

As a self-taught engineer as well as a songwriter and performer, VITA has a unique perspective on the making of her music. When asked how involved she was in the production of “PLEASER,” she made it clear that she was a “massive part” of the process.

“I’m definitely a massive part of the process,”

VITA explained.

A Creative Partnership Built Over Years

For “PLEASER,” VITA worked closely with Naz, a longtime creative collaborator who she described as her partner across both music and the visual side of her artistry.

Naz produced the track and also works with VITA on her videos, handling everything from directing and editing to color and production.

Rather than simply bringing in a producer and stepping away, VITA described their relationship as an “insulated team” that has developed its own creative language over time.

The two have worked together for so long that much of their communication has become almost instinctive.

“He knows what I like and what I don’t like”

VITA said.

That familiarity appears to be an important part of how VITA approaches production. Because she already has a strong understanding of the sound and world she wants to create, she can communicate her vision without necessarily having to control every individual step.

Knowing When to Step Back

Interestingly, being heavily involved in her music doesn’t mean VITA wants to control every aspect of the production.

She explained that she gives the producers she chooses a significant amount of freedom because she is very particular about who she works with in the first place.

“I explain what I want and I step back and I allow people to do their job”

For VITA, that balance seems to be a major part of her creative process. She knows what she wants, communicates her vision and then trusts the people she has chosen to help bring it to life.

“I also have a lot of faith in them”

she added.

That approach is especially interesting coming from an artist who is involved in so many areas of her work. VITA isn’t only writing and performing her songs; she’s also developed a strong visual identity around OPIA, contributing to everything from the project’s characters and visuals to elements of her own wardrobe.

More Than Just a Song

That level of involvement also helps explain why “PLEASER” feels like more than a standalone single within the OPIA rollout.

During the press conference, VITA explained that the song was intentionally chosen to introduce listeners to the project because it reveals some of the contradictions she explores throughout the album.

She described being able to be both self-indulgent and a people pleaser at the same time, with those seemingly opposing traits existing within the same person.

The song ultimately became an introduction to the larger world she is creating with OPIA.

And while VITA has a clear vision for that world, her answer to TokkiStar’s question shows that collaboration is still a major part of bringing it to life.

Rather than trying to do everything herself, VITA has built a trusted creative team around her—people who understand her vision well enough that she can give them room to execute it.

For an artist who describes herself as someone who is constantly evolving, that combination of creative control and trust could be one of the most important parts of her artistic identity.

With OPIA on the way, VITA is proving that being a hands-on artist doesn’t necessarily mean doing everything alone. Sometimes, it means knowing exactly what you want, surrounding yourself with the right people and trusting them enough to bring that vision to life.
