Japan-based dance and vocal group KID PHENOMENON has been announced as an official performer at SXSW 2026, marking a major international opportunity for the group. The announcement was made on the official SXSW website on February 11 at 1:00 PM (Texas time).
SXSW 2026 will take place March 12 through March 18 in Austin, Texas, as the festival celebrates its 40th anniversary.
KID PHENOMENON was selected as one of the artists representing emerging talent at the global event. Despite having limited experience with large-scale activities in the United States, the group has drawn attention as a next-generation act from Tokyo with the potential to reach audiences worldwide.
SXSW: A Global Festival for Emerging Artists
SXSW, held annually every March in Austin, has grown into one of the most recognized festivals in the world. The event brings together music, film, technology, and culture in one large international gathering.
Austin itself is widely known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” with around 270 live music venues concentrated in its downtown area, creating a city environment centered around live performance.
The festival originally launched in 1987 as a music festival focused on discovering new talent. Over time, it became a gateway for artists before major global breakthroughs. Past performers include Ed Sheeran, Norah Jones, and Billie Eilish, who later went on to win Grammy Awards.
Today, SXSW has expanded far beyond music. The event includes film screenings, gaming showcases, comedy programs, and technology discussions. Across seven days, the festival features more than 850 conference sessions, 600 networking events, over 300 live performances, and more than 460 film and television screenings.
The event has also been a launchpad for global companies including Spotify, X (formerly Twitter), Airbnb, and Uber, while notable moments include President Barack Obama’s keynote appearance in 2016 and Elon Musk’s space discussion in 2013.
