KPop Demon Hunters is Taking Over?
KPop Demon Hunters is officially dominating pop culture.
The animated Netflix film has become the most watched animated original on the platform, racking up well over 130 million views since its June 20, 2025 release and has topped charts in more than 26 countries.
The special sing along version in theaters was a hit as well, earning around $18 million in the U.S. and Canada. Giving Netflix its very first No. 1 movie at the box office.

The soundtrack is equally unstoppable. The album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, becoming the first soundtrack in 2025 to crack the top 10, then jumped to No. 2 the following week.
The songs themselves have also soared. “Golden” by HUNTR/X hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and even reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, Making them the first Girl group to go number one on the chart since Destiny Child‘s in 2001. “Soda Pop” by the Saja Boys peaked at No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 3 on the Billboard Global 200.

“Strategy,” by TWICE, saw a resurgence thanks to the film as well. The song climbed into the Hot 100, peaking at No. 62, marking TWICE’s personal best on the chart.
Much of the love for the film and its music, comes from the belief that it captures the true essence of Kpop. In recent months, there’s been an upraising of fans who have said, that with so many idol groups releasing western style songs, in an attempt to appeal to international audiences, Kpop has lost the plot. But with KDH, many feel it brings the genre back to its roots.
While some still say the genre has become too westernized, others say Kpop was always just western music sung in Korean.
The film has also earned praise for its blend of rich Korean mythology, vibrant animation, and emotional storytelling. In short, it has become a cultural phenomenon.
But not everyone’s thrilled. While fans adore the energy and creativity, some wonder if fictional idol groups should receive all these accolades over the 2D Kpop groups
But what are your thoughts on this? Has KPop Demon Hunters earned its place at the top or should the 3D idols step aside for their 2D counterparts?
In my humble opinion, I think they have.
