Taeil Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison for Assault Case
Former NCT member Taeil has officially been sentenced to 3 years in prison for his involvement in a gang rape case that shocked fans and the wider K-pop community. The case centered around Taeil and two other individuals who, according to court findings, took a drunk, incoherent woman to one of their apartments and repeatedly assaulted her.

Originally, Taeil faced the possibility of receiving up to 7 years in prison, but the court ultimately handed down a reduced sentence. In addition to the prison term, all three men were ordered to complete 40 hours of a treatment program designed for sexual violence offenders.
Public Reaction to the Sentence
Reactions from netizens have been mixed. Some expressed relief that Taeil will serve time behind bars, while others questioned the leniency of the sentencing, especially given the severity of the crime.
Many fans are voicing concern over how idol culture and celebrity status may impact sentencing outcomes in South Korea’s legal system. The case has also reignited discussions about accountability in the K-pop industry, particularly regarding how agencies respond to scandals involving their artists.
Taeil Removed from NCT and Dropped by SM Entertainment
Following the allegations, Taeil was removed from NCT and dropped by SM Entertainment. The agency has since deleted most official traces of the former member, and no future schedules involving him remain.
As public scrutiny continues, many are calling on the industry to take stronger stances on violence against women and to re-evaluate how scandals are handled behind the scenes.
