Hyolyn apologizes for saying the N-Word

Recently, Hyolyn came under fire for using the N-word in her Instagram story. She sang the word while singing along to Doja Cat’s song “Say So.”

The N-word “Nigger” is a racial slur used to insult and demean black people. An article that delves further into the history of the N-word is “N-word: The troubled history of the racial slur” by Cherry Wilson. In it, they discuss the inception of the word as well as how it’s being used today.

After fans expressed their hurt and outrage by the singer saying this word, Hyolyn has now released a public apology.

Her statement reads.

Hello everyone, this is HYOLYN.

Yesterday, while singing along to a song that was playing in the background, I carelessly uttered a charged word with significant cultural and historical implications. I am deeply regretful and heartbroken to have hurt so many of you by my ignorance. I am sincerely sorry.

Please know that I love you all very much, and I thank you for keeping me accountable for my actions. I hope you will be there in my journey to educate myself more on cultures beyond my own, to grow not only as an artist, but as a person.

Thank you again for all your love and support.
